Your writing is so interesting and inspiring to me. I am so glad your mom shared it on FB!

My overriding standout for reading this year has been The Bible Recap. Walking through the scriptures chronologically for the first time ever has been life-altering. ❤️

Thanks for commenting! I was actually in Tara-Leigh Cobble’s discipleship group many years ago here in Greenville — it is amazing how God has used her and The Bible Recap to help stir such a love for God’s word!

It's so good to read your writing again! The days working with you and Jivan at FL were good ones I'll always remember.

For this year, I also enjoyed Gentle and Lowly. In addition, I do relish a good, old fashioned mystery. I thoroughly enjoyed The Murder of Roger Ackroyd by Agatha Christie, as well as several new books by Anthony Horowitz. And if you want a cozy, winter read, I highly recommend A Gentleman in Moscow by Towles.

For movies, my wife and I thought A Crooked House (yes, another Agatha Christie) was brilliant! The acting and story were intriguing and kept us hooked to the end.

Paul, thank you so much for the kind words! I too loved that season at FL. :) Thanks for sharing some of your 2021 favorites with me. I did read A Gentleman in Moscow last year and really enjoyed it. If you liked it, try Rules of Civility by him...one of my favorite books!

Excellent! Thanks. My wife read Rules of Civility and really loved his writing.

Your newsletter has everything I love! Thank you for sharing and being consistent even when the going gets tough. I know it's not easy. So thank you again. There is so much value in seeing how other creators connect the dots in the things they are reading, hearing, consuming and how they translate that into the world.

I read East of Eden this year. The way Steinbeck captures dialogue and the way he portrays his characters is unmatched. Not going to hype it up too much, but I definitely recommend it.

I also loved roasting a whole chicken as a way of meal prep for the week. It's so hands off and so delicious. I usually make it for Sunday or Monday dinner. We eat the first meal, with the fresh bird out of the oven with some bread and salad. Then we'll use the rest for the remaining of the week — shredded chicken omelets, chicken with mushrooms on toast for breakfast; chicken sandwiches or ramen for lunch. It's wonderful.

Happy new year xo

Karen, thanks so much. That means a lot coming from such a talented creator. I have never read East of Eden, but am definitely putting it on my list after this rec! Can't wait.

And I love a roast chicken. Is there anything more domestic and satisfying?! You should try this roast chicken recipe. It's still very easy, but the silky bell peppers and flavorful oil are so amazing for dipping crusty bread into. https://www.bonappetit.com/recipe/roast-chicken-with-bell-peppers-lemon-and-thyme

Happy 2022!

I LOVED East of Eden. I copied pages and pages of quotes from that book into my commonplace book. So that's a great recommendation!

I wasn't going to say the Bible Recap (although I did it for the first time this year and LOVED it and I think that is very cool that you were in a D-group with TLC in Greenville!!). I was going to say my favorite book of the year was A Burning in my Bones (The Authorized Biography of Eugene H. Peterson) written by an old friend of mine and TJ's named Winn Collier. It's so much fun to read writing by someone you know, and I had no idea how much I would be transformed by Eugene Peterson's story. I want to be like him. Also, Kathryn, I continue to feel very drawn in by your newsletters, and like Sue said, your writing is so interesting. I don't feel like I have to do what you recommend, but the way you write expands my mind and causes me to WANT to engage in life more. So thank you. Thank you for holding an imaginary gun to your head and staying in the chair. Also-long live Tandem. I ate there 60 times this year, and I'm not tired of it yet, so maybe we should go there together sometime. That would be fun!

You're my best cheerleader, Ginger. :) Thanks so much for always engaging.

How cool that you know Winn Collier! I don't know him personally, but I found him through my old boss and have really appreciated his writing. I have A Burning in my Bones on my to-read list!
