Cathy was right.
Well, my first and favorite boss ever, Cathy Monetti, once made me promise that I would not let life get so busy that I’d stop writing for myself. Of course not, I promised! I couldn’t even imagine a life where I didn’t write whatever I wanted and put it out in the world regularly! My prolific high school Xanga days were not that distant from me and my college blog had earned me a job interview. Of course I’d keep writing.
Turns out that she who founded her own ad agency at 27 knew a little what life was like once you jumped headfirst into career and family. I packed a lot into my twenties, but not much personal writing beyond magazine assignments and client deadlines. I’m still neck-deep in the exhilarating but exhausting waters of little kids/work/family/community, but I’m hoping to preserve a small sliver of time for that kind of writing again.
This is yard violet, a dispatch from life in the weeds by Kathryn Davé. You can read a little more about my aim here. The first installment goes out Thursday, October 16. Thanks for reading!
